My Responsibilities as the Teacher
All lessons are created to suit the individual student’s (and parents’) goals. I encourage my students to be curious and creative. I help students learn music that they want to learn, while encouraging them to explore a variety of musical styles. I develop their music reading, technique, and theory. Students will be challenged by a repertoire and wholistic education that suits their level and goals for the future.
Student/Parent Responsibilities
Students are responsible for arriving to lessons on time with correct books and supplies and having completed their practice for the week. Students should practice to achieve goals, not to fill time.
Supplies Needed
- A regularly tuned acoustic piano or a digital keyboard with a solid stand, a pedal, weighted action and touch sensitivity. Let me know if you need help choosing an instrument.
- Special note regarding keyboard features: It is extremely important to have a keyboard that has full-sized weighted and touch sensitive keys. Touch sensitivity is the feature which allows students to control the dynamics of their playing.
- A chair or bench of proper height is surprisingly important. Forearms should be slightly above or at the level of the keys. An adjustable bench works well, or you can stack books on an existing bench to be sure the sitting height is appropriate.
- An 8″ x 11″ spiral notebook
- 3-ring binder to organize sheet music (1.5” is fine)
- A metronome or access to a metronome app
- Covered and provided by your materials fee paid with first month’s tuition: Music method books, sheet music, and additional needed supplies.
